Flex Power Modules introduces 150W DC-DC converter with 10:1 input range and extended power down hold function

    Flex Power Modules introduces its PKM7200W series of DC-DC converters with an ultra-wide input range of 16-160 V (185 V/1 second) for rail-related applications worldwide. In a compact size of only 62 x 40 x 13 mm (2.44 x 1.57 x 0.51 inches), 150 W of continuous output power is available with 12 V, 24 V or 54 VDC fully regulated single output. The device has an efficiency of up to 89% and 4 kVDC isolation, while meeting the requirements of EN 50155 for railway applications and IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 for IT and audio/video applications.

     The PKM7200W series has the new feature of VBUS pins. It is an input reference connection, regardless of the input voltage, will boost to about 100 V. It can be used to charge a user-supplied capacitor to which the DC-DC converter switches when the input power is interrupted. This feature allows the use of relatively small capacitors to achieve a long power down hold time to meet the 10-30 ms requirement in the EN 50155 standard.

     The product complies with the railway fire safety standard EN 45545-2 and has passed the EN 61373 and IEC 60068 series of environmental test standards. The product meets the requirements of EN 50121-3-2 for EMC in railway applications and the requirements of the EN 55011 and EN 61000-4 series for electromagnetic immunity. Combined with an external filter, the product's EMI conducted emission complies with EN 55032, CISPR 32 and FCC Part 15J "Class B" standards.

     The PKM7200W series operates in the substrate temperature range from -40°C to 100°C, derating depending on the connected heat sink and air flow. Typically, by connecting a 20 mm 1/4 brick radiator, the device can provide full load at ambient temperatures up to 60°C under natural convection and up to approximately 90°C under 3 m/s airflow.

     The PKM7200W series has a wealth of features, including the ability to change the input undervoltage lock value, remote control, output adjustable and remote sensing. Comprehensive protection features cover overtemperature, output short circuit, overvoltage and overcurrent.
