
Flex Power Modules has announced the launch of the BMR492 series of digital 1/8 brick intermediate bus converters. The converter delivers 600 to 800W of continuous power and can deliver up to 1100W of peak power for short periods of less than 1s. This so-called "burst mode" work is often required for cpus in data communications and data center applications, such as Intel's Ice Lake processors.
The new BMR4920302/861 converter is the first of three versions in the upcoming BMR492 series, which can provide 12V output. The DC/DC buck solution has a rated maximum output power of 600W and input voltage range of 40-60V, making it ideal for use in nominal 48 or 54V input voltage systems common in data center server applications. The device can achieve a fully regulated output, and its input isolation voltage is 1500Vdc.
The BMR492 version is extremely efficient - it achieves a peak efficiency of 96.7% at half-load and 48Vin. Its output voltage is pre-programmed to the standard 12V, but it can also be adjusted over a wide range of 8 to 13.2V via the built-in PMBus interface. This feature can also be used to optimize system-level efficiency - users can use it to dynamically adjust the bus voltage based on the load being provided.

With this new converter, the footprint of the board is reduced, so our customers can free up more space on the PCB for the core technology in their design, rather than the power supply." "For demanding data communication applications, the BMR492 is a universal power solution in a small package that addresses many of the major design challenges," said Olle Hellgren, director of Power Module product management and business development at Flextronics.
The converters are available in industry-standard 1/8 brick tape substrate sizes of 58.4mm x 22.7mm x 12.7mm (2.3in x 0.90in x 0.34in) and feature a standard DOSA pin arrangement, including a 7-pin digital socket for PMBus interfaces.
Advanced overvoltage, overheat and short circuit protection mechanisms help extend service life, with an average time between failures (MTBF) of 6.64 million hours. In addition, as with all Flextronics DC/DC converters for power modules, the product complies with IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 safety regulations. The device operates at temperatures ranging from -40 ° C to +125 ° C.
