Flex Power module introduces dual output digital PoL regulators for high power density ICT applications

     Flex Power Modules has announced the launch of the BMR469 series, a digital Point of Load (PoL) regulator ideal for high-current ICT applications. The BMR469 has a high power density of up to 160A per square inch, saving valuable board space.

     The series comes in two models with different output currents, both in small packages. The 80A BMR4690000 measures 25.4×12.7×11.6mm (1.00×0.50×0.46in), while the 50A BMR4696001 offers an ultra-thin solution with a maximum height of only 5.8mm (0.23in). This helps customers who need to make room for a large processor heat sink or who want to put a PoL regulator on the bottom of their PCB. The thin design of the BMR4696001 also allows users to place it very close to the processor, improving transient response.

     Both versions can be configured as dual output or single higher power output. This gives customers the flexibility to use one device to meet different requirements, such as driving different processors or FPGA power rails, which helps simplify power system design.

     The BMR4690000 model offers two separate 40A outputs in a dual output configuration, or an 80A power rail in single output mode, while the BMR4696001 offers a 2×25A output, or a 50A power rail in single output mode. Users can parallel up to four modules for current sharing - the BMR4690000 provides a total of up to 320A and the BMR4696001 up to 200A.

     The BMR469 can be easily configured via pin-strap or PMBus, so it can be easily set up for different applications. The regulator is also supported by simulation models in Flex's Power Designer software, making its design and commissioning very simple. In particular, the Flex Power Designer's advanced simulation capabilities enable customers to optimize configuration parameters, thus enabling them to implement stable control loops with fast load transient responses.

     The BMR469 is ideal for a wide range of applications in the ICT sector, especially for designs requiring high power density and digital architecture solutions, such as those required by manufacturers of test equipment or emulators. The BMR469 delivers enough power to drive high-end devices such as processors, FPgas, and ASics.

     "For demanding ICT applications, the new BMR469 provides a flexible solution in a small package to solve a variety of design challenges for customers," said Olle Hellgren, director of Product Management and Business Development for Flex Power Modules.

     The product is highly efficient: usually 92.6% (12Vin, 5Vout) at half load. The input voltage range is 7.5V to 14V and the output range is 0.6V to 5V. The BMR469 meets the safety requirements of IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 with an average time to failure (MTBF) of 18.49 million hours.
