Hall effect latches to assist seat motor positioning in automotive applications

     Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, introduces the MLX92223, a PCB-free, two-wire Hall effect latch with integrated passive components (392Ω resistors and decoupling capacitors), which is fully compatible with industry standard electronic control units (ECUs) without the need for any additional external components. The MLX92223 is available in a TO-92-3L package with an operating temperature range of -40°C TO +150°C

     As car manufacturers increasingly favor electric seat adjustment mechanisms, the importance of accurately detecting seat position is increasing. The MLX92223 integrates the usual external passive components needed to connect the Hall effect latch to the ECU. This level of integration eliminates the need to install any sensors in the PCB, enabling a more miniaturized solution that allows Oems to integrate latches and modules even when space is limited, further increasing customer comfort and safety.

     The magnetic sensor technology used by Melexis has advanced offset cancellation and its temperature coefficient can be programmed, so the MLX92223 compensates for the temperature variation of the magnet. The integration of power side resistors means Oems do not need to connect the usual external series resistors, and the integrated decoupling capacitor provides better EMC and ESD performance for the MLX92223. In addition, the MLX92223 integrates an internal voltage regulator circuit and an input current output. Other features of the chip include reverse voltage protection, thermal protection, which limits the output current when the chip junction temperature exceeds a threshold.
