Harwin has expanded the award-winning Gecko-SL (Screw-Lok) product range to include horizontal male connectors. The highly successful Gecko family of products has won the favor of many engineers, offering solutions that are more compact and lightweight than traditional Micro-D connectors.
If the male connector is set to a 90° Angle from the PCB, it provides greater board layout flexibility to maximize on-board space. This allows the connector to be placed on the edge of the PCB and routed laterally on the outside of the PCB stack. One key application that benefits from this type of connectivity is CubeSats, many of which require a series of PCBS to be involved in a dense stack where all cables need to be routed to the space outside the stack. Similar narrow space constraints exist in avionics (especially drone design), large satellites, military (such as radar and portable communications equipment), robotics, and sports racing.
Harwin's horizontal Gecko-SL connectors with stainless steel screw-loks are designed for "Mate-Before-Lock" for ease of use, simply pushing the joint fully in before tightening the screws. Engineers can choose between standard screw-lok with plate mounting (with joint screws on female connectors) or reverse fixing (with joint screws on male connectors). The pin count perfectly matches the rest of the Gecko-SL series, which offers between 6 and 50 contacts.
These new horizontal components offer industry-leading fastness as required by Harwin's high-reliability connectors. The Gecko-SL has an operating temperature range of -65 ° C to + 150 ° C, strong vibration resistance (20G at 2kHz, lasting 6 hours) and impact resistance (up to 100G), and extremely low displacement, meeting the requirements of NASA and ESA indicators. The rated current is set to A maximum of 2.8A for a single contact, or 2A for each contact if all contacts are loaded.
