Harwin announces new 60A rated 8.5mm pitch power connector

     Harwin has announced the introduction of the Kona series of connectors, significantly increasing the level of power that the portfolio can support. The contacts of these 8.5mm pitch connectors provide a 60A current rating, meaning applications such as battery charging can be supported without the need for multiple contacts for shunt. Key target applications for the Kona series of connectors include electric vehicle battery monitoring/management, power control systems, robot drives, servo control, drones and satellites.

     The Kona contacts are designed as a row layout and are available in 2, 3 and 4 contact versions. The current-carrying capacity of these contacts is so great that fewer contacts are needed to transmit the required current, thus taking up less PCB space. Pairing kits include a male through-board connector with board mounting fastenings and a female cable connector that can accommodate 8AWG cables.

     Harwin's innovative mate-before-lock mechanism prevents any damage during the locking process, ensuring that the paired components are fully aligned first. Since each contact has a protective cover and a full polarization setting, no mismatches can occur. The Kona connector has a pairing life cycle of 250 times, and by using stainless steel finger screws mounted on the master connector assembly, installation is simplified without the use of any tools, maximizing user convenience. The Kona connector also includes a contact indicator to ensure that the connector assembly is oriented correctly.

     With a maximum voltage rating of 3kV and an operating temperature range of -65 ° C to + 150 ° C, Kona connectors are suitable for deployment in the most demanding applications. These components can withstand 20G vibration forces for up to 12 hours, and 6-finger Beryllium Copper contacts prevent any connection breakdowns.
