Harwin's new multidirectional elastic contacts meet the requirements of flexible circuit board connections

     Harwin, always committed to delivering highly creative engineering solutions, has expanded its elastic contact product range with two new versions. These new surface-mount components can support horizontal and vertical connections, but are smaller than previous products. The S1961-46R has a height of 3.55mm, while the S1971-46R has a height of 4.55mm.

     Although there are already many flexible contacts on the market for vertical orientation, components that can support horizontal operation at the same time are rare. However, the industry's demand for higher density electronics designs means engineers need more flexibility when connecting circuit boards, which is why support for multidirectional operation is so attractive.

     The S1961-46R and S1971-46R are both rated at 14A, which makes them useful for low-level power transmission applications and tasks such as signal transmission and cabinet grounding. These two products have a durability of more than 5,000 engagement cycles, and because they are connected by contact rather than wiping operation, they have a longer service life than horizontal tinned connectors.

     Ryan Smart, product Manager of new product Introduction at Harwin, explains, "Our initial release of multi-way elastic contact products has been very successful, and these components have been able to provide a more flexible way to connect boards to suit different layouts. "After Harwin introduced these products, we received many customer requests for more compact, smaller footprint and smaller form factors, which is why we released the S1961-46R and S1971-46R. By adopting these new products, our customers can meet a wider range of application requirements."

     These new products complement Harwin's existing larger size multidirectional elastic contact products, including the S1941-46R, S1941-42R and S1951-46R. As with all Harwin elastic contact products, the newly released products are delivered in roll packaging, and their surface mount design means they are suitable for automatic assembly via mounting machines.
