High performance converters for railway and harsh environment applications

     XP Power has announced the launch of two ultra-wide input range, cost-effective, high-power density DC-DC converters for railway traction and rolling stock. The ultra-wide input range of these two DC-DC converters allows customers to reduce inventory requirements and meet an ultra-wide application range. The RDE20 series with a power rating of 20W has a 4:1 input range, with 24, 37.5 and 48VDC rated inputs available in 13-70VDC input versions and 72&110VDC rated inputs in 42-176VDC versions. Rated at 25W, the RDF25 series features an ultra-wide 10:1 input range, with the 16-160VDC version offering all rated inputs from 24VDC to 110VDC.

     Both products are certified to EN50155 and EN50121-3-2 and meet all the most important safety standards and electromagnetic compatibility requirements for railway applications. In addition, as a product designed to comply with EN45545-2 safety regulations, the two products also meet the relevant fire protection standards. These two products use a small number of filtering elements, and our products provide a higher power density than other products that meet these industry standards. This high power density makes them particularly suitable for space-constrained applications, particularly the RDE20, which has a tiny 1 "x 1" package size.

     The high efficiency of the converter means reduced cooling requirements, and the remote on/off function enables simple, reduced power consumption in the off state. The RDE20 and RDF25 converters provide output short-circuit, overload and overvoltage protection to protect equipment and host equipment, while the product's 3kV input/output insulation securely isolates equipment from the power supply. Both series operate in an ambient temperature range of -40 to +100 degrees Celsius, and the load starts derating when the temperature reaches +55 degrees Celsius.

     Specific applications of trains in traction and vehicles include gating, security monitors, communication systems, video surveillance, access and ticket machines, drive control, power control, information systems, lighting, USB ports for charging passenger equipment, HVAC systems, health equipment control, infotainment, system monitoring and telemetry. The construction of both products also allows them to be used in harsh environments.
