IDT introduces low power and high precision temperature sensors

IDT Corporation announced the launch of a new line of precision temperature sensors for ultra-low power solid-state drive applications. The new device family minimizes power consumption, optimizes bill of materials (BOM), and remains compatible with existing standards for high-capacity memory modules.

     Integrated Device Technology, a leading provider of mixed-signal semiconductor solutions with advanced analog and digital technologies, announced the launch of a new family of precision temperature sensors for ultra-low power solid-state drive applications. The new device family minimizes power consumption, optimizes bill of materials (BOM), and remains compatible with existing standards for high-capacity memory modules.

 

     The IDT TS3000GB0A0 is a low-power, high-precision temperature sensor for enterprise server and storage applications. It supports a 1.8V power supply, which reduces power consumption and is compatible with existing supply voltages for SSD memory modules, without the need for additional voltage regulators. The device continues IDT's consistent industry-leading temperature accuracy, exceeding the JC42.4 specification established by the JEDEC for Class B temperature sensors in the -40 °C to +125 °C range. The innovative analog-to-digital converter enables programmable resolutions of up to 12 bits (0.0625°C) and industry-leading conversion times of less than 100 nanoseconds regardless of resolution, dramatically improving the overall accuracy of the thermal control loop across the entire temperature range.

 

     According to John Unsworth of Gartner, "Enterprise SSDS can achieve significant performance gains in smaller sizes and lower power consumption. Over the past few years, the need for enterprise-class SSDS has gained tremendous attention. We expect unit shipments to grow by more than 41% over the next five years, with SSD vendor sales quadrupling.

 

     Mario Montana, vice President and general manager of Enterprise Computing at IDT, said: "The SSD market is poised for explosive growth over the next decade, and the SSD market is a strategic focus for IDT. Our memory and SSD customers recognize IDT as a leader in high performance and low power system solutions. "Our latest temperature sensors share these qualities and complement our broad portfolio of enterprise server and storage solutions, including PCI Express flash controllers and switches, timing, power management and other storage interface products."

 

     The IDT TS3000GB0A0 supports SMBus and I2C interfaces and is compatible with the latest generation of flash memory and controllers. It is fully compatible with JEDEC to provide customers with standards-based solutions, whereas most competing thermal sensors in the market do not follow any standardization. The device integrates advanced on-chip power management to minimize power consumption during critical modes, such as when mobile or fault-tolerant enterprise systems are powered by batteries. It also has input burr filtering and power-on voltage hysteresis to enhance fault tolerance, which are important features for servers and storage devices.
