Imagination introduces the IMG A Series of new graphics processors that can be used in any scenario

     Imagination Technologies has announced the launch of the IMG A-Series, the 10th generation of its PowerVR graphics processing architecture. As the most powerful graphics processor (GPU) semiconductor intellectual property (IP) product it has ever released, the IMG A series has evolved the PowerVR GPU architecture to meet the graphics processing and computing requirements of a variety of next-generation devices. Designed as A "GPU for every scenario," the IMG A series is the ultimate solution for multiple vertical applications, supporting applications ranging from automotive electronics (including assisted driving/autonomous driving), AIoT, and computing to digital TV/set-top box/Digital TV box (DTV/STB/OTT), mobile devices, and servers.

     The IMG A Series enables performance scalability in multiple dimensions, from components processing 1 pixel per clock cycle (1 PPC) for the entry-level market, all the way to cores for high performance devices with speeds up to 2 teraflops (2 Tflops), and even multi-core solutions for cloud applications that exceed that.

     The IMG A series offers significant improvements in every dimension, delivering 2.5 times better performance, 8 times faster machine learning processing and 60 percent lower power consumption compared to PowerVR devices currently shipping on the same clock and semiconductor processes.

     Compared to other GPU IP solutions currently available, the IMG A series delivers higher performance, lower power consumption (compared to competitors using the same clock and semiconductor processes) and lower bandwidth (using the same cache size as competitors), and all products occupy a smaller chip area. The architecture also provides powerful differentiating benefits, such as ensuring 50% compression of image data (lossless in most cases, or visually lossless compression in special scenes).

     Jon Peddie, principal researcher and founder of market Research firm Jon Peddie Research, said: "The fact is that for mobile SoCs, the market leaders have their own GPU technology and are gaining market share at a rate of 5% per year. To keep from losing their addressable market, other mobile SoC companies need a compelling GPU to create some real competition. Imagination's A-Series products can do that."
