Infineon Launches New Battery Management IC

Infineon Technologies Inc. has announced the launch of a new battery management IC product line that provides an optimized solution for battery monitoring and equalization. The new battery management ics, TLE9012DQU and TLE9015DQU, provide a competitive system-level solution for battery module, module-free battery technology (CTP) and Battery Chassis Integration technology (CTC) battery topologies with higher measurement accuracy and superior application robustness

     Infineon Technology Co., Ltd. announced the launch of a new battery management IC product series to provide optimized solutions for battery monitoring and balancing. The new battery management IC includes two models, TLE9012DQU and TLE9015DQU, which can achieve higher measurement accuracy and excellent application robustness. It provides a competitive system level solution for the battery topology of battery modules, modelless battery technology (CTP) and battery chassis integration technology (CTC). The device is widely used in industrial, consumer and automotive applications, such as mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and pure electric vehicles (BEVs), as well as energy storage systems, battery management systems for two wheel and three wheel electric vehicles.

 

     Finn Felsberg, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Automotive Power Integration and Supply of Infineon, said: "With the launch of two battery management IC products, TLE9012DQU and TLE9015DQU, Infineon has improved its battery management system product portfolio, which is a very important milestone. Customers can benefit from the interoperability of Infineon devices and rich software products, which can minimize the complexity of development and shorten the time to market."

 

     The new battery management IC can be used in safety related applications to enable the automotive battery management system (BMS) solution to meet the requirements of ASIL-D, the highest level of automotive functional safety, and comply with ISO26262 standards. In addition, these optimized products can also be used with the help of complex device drivers (CDD) ™ Series microcontrollers are used together with power management ICs that support functional safety. This provides a complete solution for voltage and temperature sensing, equalization and communication of various battery solutions.

 

     TLE9012DQU is a multi-channel battery monitoring and equalization system chip. It adopts the advanced technology of Infineon and can conduct highly accurate voltage measurement to estimate the battery state of charge (SoC) and battery health (SoH), which is also a key requirement that all battery management systems must meet. In addition, this device is specially designed for lithium-ion battery pack, and it is a monitoring and balancing system chip that meets the highest level ASIL-D certification of vehicle functional safety. It can be directly controlled by the microcontroller through the UART interface or the isolated UART interface of the new TLE9015DQU iso UART transceiver IC.

 

     The design of TLE9012DQU is based on the parallel ADC architecture. With the help of 16 bit DS ADC technology, it achieves high accuracy, and achieves excellent noise suppression through highly dense sampling in the chip. It can complete the synchronous sampling of the entire battery pack in 10 microseconds. In addition, it can also reduce or even get rid of dependence on external components while ensuring full life cycle accuracy.

 

     TLE9015DQU is a battery monitoring transceiver chip, which is used to connect multiple TLE9012AQUs in lithium batteries in a daisy chain structure. Through two pairs of UART and iso UART interfaces, it can support circular communication, reduce cost and improve system efficiency. The module can also realize bidirectional information flow through the integrated fault management unit, including multiple programmable inputs and outputs on each TLE9012DQU chip.
