     Infineon Technologies AG has made this possible with the TLE4966V, a vertical dual Hall sensor. Dual Hall sensors can provide rotation direction and speed information; Previously, this required two sensors. The product enables system manufacturers to reduce the cost of producing sensors by an average of 30 percent and reduce detection and manufacturing time by up to 50 percent. With a power consumption of 4mA to 7mA, the TLE4966V is suitable not only for energy-sensitive electronic vehicle systems, but also for escalators, electric curtains and blinds. As the market leader in automotive sensors, Infineon previously set the industry standard for electric window lifters with the TLE4966.

 

     With the TLE4966V, Infineon has changed the two Hall probes from horizontal to vertical. This design innovation allows the TEL4966V to detect magnetic fields in a plane and provide rotation direction and speed information, which previously required two sensors. Two integrated vertical Hall probes located on the same silicon chip have the same temperature and stress characteristics and the same sensitivity throughout the life cycle.

 

     Because of the distance between the two Hall probes, slightly different signals can be detected at any given time. During the change of rotation direction, the phase difference causes the polarity to change. The TLE4966V generates a corresponding signal when it detects this change. The TLE4966V has two signal outputs: one is a magnetic pole rotor rotation direction signal output, and the other is a signal output to measure the speed of the magnetic pole rotor. The signal is triggered by a change in the polarity of the magnetic field.

 

     The TLE4966V performs signal processing on a chip, which gives system designers a significant advantage: the sensor delivers detection information in just 20µs, eliminating the need to program the microcontroller, thus eliminating programming errors and improving system quality. The TLE4966V can operate under unregulated power supply conditions and is suitable for 3.5V to 32V systems.

 

     Infineon's Hall switch sensor portfolio includes single-pole and all-pole switches, bipolar latches for brushless direct current (BLDC) motor control, position sensing and index calculation. These products are specially designed for low power consumption, excellent magnetic accuracy and robustness against electrical interference. Infineon Hall switches use a voltage interface (open leakage) or a two-wire current interface. The sensor features a small surface mount (SMD) and thin in-line package, allowing for a high degree of flexibility in product design.
