Modern power systems require efficient and compact regulators. To address this challenge, Infineon Technologies AG has launched the TDA388xx family for the server, AI, data communications, telecommunications and storage markets. The latest 12 A and 20 A synchronous step-down regulators use a fast constant on-time (COT) control mode to optimize performance. This approach ensures fast transient response, minimizes the number of passive components and saves board space.
The versatile range of regulators allows stable operation over a wide input voltage range from 4.0V to 16V, and can be further extended in a variety of DC-DC application scenarios with an external biased power supply. Infineon's new TDA388xx series of regulators represents a major leap forward in power system efficiency and design compactness.
The TDA388xx series consists of four step-down regulators (TDA38812, TDA38813, TDA38825 and TDA38826), each with a unique internal compensation feature that not only improves ease of use but also reduces the need for external semiconductor components. The series features a versatile design for a wide range of applications and offers a choice of switching frequencies and soft start capabilities. With programmable current limits, these regulators enable precise control and support both fixed frequency continuous on-mode (FCCM) and discontinuous on-mode (DCM). In addition, the TDA388xx series regulators allow voltage tracking via an external reference input. This flexibility is essential to meet different power system requirements. These characteristics together improve the adaptability and efficiency of the voltage regulator product family.
One of the key features of the TDA388xx product family is its built-in multiple protection functions, including pre-biased start and thermal compensation current limit, as well as overvoltage protection (OVP) and undervoltage protection (UVP), which ensure system safety even in case of failure. And, for added safety, Infineon has added a thermal shut-off function to the TDA388xx product range. The product family is packaged in a RoHS-compliant QFN-21 package and is capable of operating efficiently in the temperature range from -40°C to 125°C. With these features, the TDA38825/26/12/13 is particularly suitable for demanding power system environments.
