Infineon introduces a new predictive maintenance assessment suite to quickly monitor the condition of smart buildings

Infineon Technologies has launched the new XENSIV Predictive Maintenance Evaluation suite, developed in collaboration with IoT service provider Klika Tech and supported by cloud service provider AWS, to provide customers with an end-to-end solution. The package, which includes hardware (sensors, microcontrollers, embedded security), software and CloudFormation templates, provides a good basis for quickly and easily evaluating sensor-based condition monitoring and predictive maintenance operations, and demonstrates Infineon's ability to support iot.

Target applications include heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, as well as motors, fans, drivers, compressors, refrigeration, and other components of smart buildings

 

     Gennadiy Borisov, president and co-CEO of Klika Tech, said they worked with AWS and Infineon to develop an end-to-end HVACR predictive maintenance assessment suite and anomaly detection solution to help building operators evaluate various functions and proactively prevent them from becoming costly failures. Now, with a complete evaluation solution, you can increase efficiency and reduce system downtime with this quickly deployable and scalable evaluation platform.

 

     Robert Junker, head of emerging applications at Infineon, said that with the rise of smart buildings, operators are increasingly focusing on features such as condition monitoring and predictive maintenance to realize the full potential of smart buildings. This evaluation suite enables customers to easily evaluate sensor-based condition monitoring and predictive maintenance capabilities in their HVAC systems. They work with partner vendors to provide complete end-to-end support in predictive maintenance processes.

 

     The XENSIV Predictive Maintenance Evaluation Suite is an extension of the XMC4700 XMC Relax suite, which can be equipped with the XENSIV sensor satellite board and can be paired with a variety of sensors for data collection and condition monitoring.

 

     The included software fully supports the FreeRTOS core. AWS Cloud integration is done by stacking the complete AWS CloudFormation template and software applications. In addition, a graphical user interface (GUI) and basic exception detection are included. As for connectivity, WiFi has been integrated with Ethernet as a built-in feature, and there is a mikroBUS ClickBoard interface with extended connectivity.

 

     According to a report by IHS Markit, the overall smart building market will reach $17.5 billion by 2022. Predictive maintenance technology originated from smart factory and is one of the important functions of smart buildings. Predictive maintenance can reduce failures by 70 percent and maintenance costs by 25 percent, while well-maintained equipment can extend its service life by 20 percent. In particular, end-users of HVAC (such as building owners and facility managers) require predictive maintenance capabilities for their equipment, as equipment failures can lead to severe disruptions in building operations.
