Infineon introduces the CoolGaN 700 V power transistor for improved performance in consumer and industrial applications

Compared to other gallium nitride (GaN) products on the market, the input and output performance of this family of transistors is optimized by 20%, resulting in increased efficiency, reduced power losses, and a more cost-effective solution. The combination of electrical characteristics and packaging enables them to perform well in a wide range of applications, including consumer chargers and notebook adapters, data center power supplies, renewable energy inverters, battery storage, and more. 

     The product family consists of 13 devices with a rated voltage of 700 V and on-resistance range of 20 mΩ to 315 mΩ. Thanks to increased device size and industry-standard package options such as PDFN, TOLL, TOLT, customers can select RDS resistors and packages based on application requirements to optimize and achieve electrical and thermal system performance in a more cost-effective solution.

     This series of devices is characterized by fast opening and closing speeds and minimal switching losses. In addition, with the 700 V E mode featuring the industry's highest transient voltage at 850 V, they are better able to withstand anomalies in the user environment, such as voltage spikes, improving overall system reliability.
