Infineon introduces the OPTIGA Connect eSIM solution for mobile consumer terminals

     Infineon Technologies further expands its embedded SIM (eSIM) portfolio with the new OPTIGA™ Connect eSIM solution for mobile consumer devices. The solution fully supports all GSMA standards, from 3G to 5G, and securely performs access authentication for contracted operator networks. Thanks to its compact form factor, it is the perfect partner for smartphones, tablets, and wearables such as smartwatches or fitness bands. By integrating hardware and software into a single, easy-to-integrate system, Infineon helps manufacturers develop product designs efficiently, reduce eSIM integration efforts, and accelerate bringing products to market.

     Based on Infineon's proven SLC37 security chip, the new OPTIGA Connect solution meets GSMA security requirements and is tested by CC EAL4+. It is equipped with a robust and trusted security guarantee that ensures the security of sensitive data and keys and prevents fraud.

     Not only that, the solution is fully compliant with the latest 5G specifications from the GSMA (SIMAlliance Profile Interoperability 2.3 specification) and 3GPP. It supports the profiles of major mobile operators and features remote SIM card configuration, providing up to 1.2MB of available memory for users to store carrier profiles, data and other applications. With an ultra-small package size of just 2.9mm x 2.5mm x 0.4mm, it facilitates new designs and is especially suitable for terminals where printed circuit board space is very sensitive.

     According to ABI Research, a global technology market consultant, global shipments of ESIM-based smartphones are expected to exceed 225 million units in 2020. Considering the continued support for eSIM from leading handset manufacturers and eSIM's growing foray into other device segments, ABI expects global shipments of ESIM-enabled smartphones to reach at least 500 million units in 2024.
