Infineon introduces the industry's first 20 Gbps universal USB peripheral controller

     Infineon Technologies AG, the global semiconductor leader in power systems and the Internet of Things, has announced the EZ-USB FX20 programmable USB peripheral controller, a new product of the EZ-USB™ family. With this product, developers can create USB devices that meet the higher performance requirements of artificial intelligence (AI), image processing, and emerging applications. The EZ-USB™ FX20 peripheral controller provides high-speed connectivity through USB 20 Gbps and LVDS interfaces, with a total bandwidth increase of six times over the previous generation EZ-USB™ FX3.

As a result, Infineon continues to improve the functionality and performance of EZ-USB™ peripheral controllers, continuously introducing new products in this family and providing flexible components for developers to create powerful, advanced applications."The EZ-USB™ FX20 is available in a 10 x 10 mm² BGA package and requires very little PCB space, which not only optimizes BOM, but is also ideal for space-constrained applications.

     The product also supports USB-C direct connection, eliminating the need for high-speed signal multiplexers (MUX) and simplifying the design process. The accompanying Quick Start development kit includes firmware and configuration tools to facilitate the integration of the product. The kit comes with a standard FPGA sandwich card (FMC) connector for easy connection to field programmable gate Array (FPGA) cards, as well as an all-in-one programming and debugging accessory card. In addition, the peripheral controller provides a comprehensive set of software and hardware design application instructions, which can simplify the development process of high-performance equipment for different purposes.

     The EZ-USB™ FX20 is equipped with two ARM® Cortex-M4 and M0+ core cpus, 512 KB flash memory, 128 KB SRAM, 128 KB ROM, and seven serial communication blocks (SCBS). It also comes with a crypto accelerator and a high-bandwidth data subsystem for direct memory access (DMA) data transfer between LVDS/LVCMOS and USB ports at speeds of up to 20 Gbps. In addition, an additional 1 MB SRAM for buffering USB data also provides support for data transfer. Since this peripheral controller integrates USB-C port orientation detection and flip multiplexing, no external logic is required.
