Infineon introduces the new MOTIX™ full bridge IC family for smart brushed DC motor applications

     As the automotive industry continues to evolve, what was once a premium feature is now standard. Therefore, intelligent low-voltage motors will play an increasingly important role in shaping the user experience of future vehicles. Automakers are looking for semiconductor solutions that are more reliable, energy efficient, and economical, while also working well in harsh conditions. To meet this demand, Infineon is introducing the MOTIX™ Bridge BTM90xx, a full bridge/H-bridge integrated circuit (IC) product family specifically designed for brushless DC motor applications.

     The new BTM90xx full-bridge IC not only enriches Infineon's product lineup, but also complements the MOTIX™ low-voltage motor control IC portfolio from driver ics to highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. Applications of the BTM90xx series include, but are not limited to, automotive applications such as doors, mirrors, seats, body, area control modules and are specifically optimized for these applications. In addition, due to the safety documentation attached, the series can also be used for safety-related applications.

     The power of the BTM90xx series enables intelligent and micro motor control solutions. With a normal operating voltage range of 7 V to 18 V (extended to 4.5 V to 40 V), the series offers a variety of protection and diagnostic functions, such as overheating, undervoltage, overcurrent, cross current or short circuit detection. The BTM90xx series measures the current of both high and low side switches and is suitable for automotive applications with current limits of at least 10 A (BTM901x) or 20 A (BTM902x), enabling PWM up to 20 kHz.

     The BTM9011EP and BTM9021EP are models suitable for SPI that support daisy-chain features that reduce the number of pins, helping to reduce overall system costs. The BTM9021 also integrates a watchdog function. The BTM90xx is packaged in a miniature TSDSO-14 (4.9 x 6.0 mm) package, reducing the total PCB board space required, and its large bare pad improves the device's heat dissipation performance.

     To simplify the evaluation and design import process for the MOTIX™ BTM90xx, Infineon also provides a complete support package that includes product technical documentation, simulation models, power dissipation calculation tools, evaluation boards and Arduino sample code. In addition, the MOTIX BTM90xx device driver software and the MOTIX™ Full Bridge IC Configuration wizard are available for free at the Infineon Developer Center (IDC).
