Infineon Technologies has developed the world's first fully self-contained Raspberry Pi audio amplifier Hardware expansion Board (HAT). Not only is it compact, but it also delivers high-fidelity audio at speaker power levels. Infineon's proprietary multilevel technology ensures that Raspberry PI users and makers can enjoy minimal product size and power consumption, while maintaining best-in-class power efficiency and HD audio quality. Its target application area is active speakers that support wireless music streaming.
The expansion board (KIT_40W_AMP_HAT_ZW) is compatible with Raspberry PI Zero W and Raspberry PI 3 and Raspberry PI 4. It uses the built-in MERUS MA12070P amplifier to implement MERUS™ multistage Class D amplification, enabling unsecured amplifier design and eliminating the need for an output filter with a filter coil.
This can significantly reduce the BOM cost and reduce the PCB board area. In addition, the expansion board is small in size but has a high output power, providing up to 40W of instantaneous peak power at 4 ohms. The solution offers excellent efficiency, with up to 20 hours of playback time when using a mobile power supply of about 6700 mAh. No additional external power is required, just A 5 V/2.5 A USB power supply can power both the PI and the expansion board.
For easy and quick Audio system setup, the expansion board is compatible with major Linux distributions such as Raspbian, Volumio, moOde Audio, or JustboomPlayer. It can be configured in dual channel bridging load (BTL) or mono Parallel Bridging load (PBTL) mode and can also be used in multi-chamber, TWS or heavy subwoofer applications.
