Infineon launched a new energy-efficient IPOL DC-DC voltage reduced and stabilized power module

Infineon Technologies has further expanded its POL (Load power) module lineup with the introduction of an efficient and reliable DC-DC step-down converter module. These modules are ideal for system designers who want to help speed their new products to market with a compact, fully integrated and easy-to-design POL product

     At present, server, communication and network storage applications are doing their best to reduce power consumption and reduce the size of the solution. At the same time, the rapidly changing market also requires system solution providers to meet market demands faster than ever before. In view of this, Infineon Technology Co., Ltd. has launched an efficient and reliable DC-DC buck converter module to further expand its POL (load power supply) module product portfolio. These modules are ideal for system designers who want to help them speed up the launch of new products with compact, fully integrated and easy to design POL products. They are mainly oriented to applications with limited space and heat dissipation conditions, such as telecommunications and data communication applications, servers, network storage and other applications.

 

     The TDM3883 and 3885 IPOL are fully integrated single output step-down converters that can provide up to 3A/4A continuous load, have efficient and excellent line and load regulation capabilities, and support a wide input voltage range of 4.5 V – 14 V. The integrated inductive and capacitive components reduce the number of external components and facilitate the design of higher power density. Compared with the split solution, the integrated solution reduces parasitic parameters and improves performance by minimizing PCB routing. At the same time, due to the extremely small package size, these modules can save as much as 80% of the PCB space, freeing up more possibilities for customer solutions. For these two optimized power modules, Infineon has strictly tested the integrated inductance and capacitance components in the reliability test and finished product test (FT), which further reduces the workload of customers and eliminates the need for them to select and test passive components.

 

     The power supply current of these two modules is very small when they are turned off (10 μ A) , which can extend the battery life of portable devices. In addition, they can provide accurate output power due to their very small reference voltage (VREF) tolerance (0.5 V ± 1.0%) and low ripple, thus helping to improve the stability and reliability of the system. For this purpose, they also use an enhanced stability COT (constant on time) engine with ceramic capacitors and no external compensation, as well as a forced continuous on mode (FCCM) option. In addition, these modules also have the thermal compensation internal overcurrent protection (OCP) function, which can improve the light load efficiency by reducing the switching frequency and using the diode emulation mode (DEM). Under the condition of ultra light load, they can enter the low quiescent current mode, which makes them an ideal choice to reduce standby power consumption. In addition, they also have other functions such as internal soft start, enable input, pre bias start, thermal shutdown, normal power output, overvoltage protection (OVP) and undervoltage lockout (UVLO).
