Infineon Technologies has recently launched a new development board designed to provide a quick-start platform for the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML and AI) at the edge. The board, named Cy8CKOIT-062S2-AI, is powered by the PSoC 62S2 microcontroller.
"Infineon's PSoC 6 AI Evaluation Suite is the perfect partner for you to easily prototype and collect real-world data to quickly build compelling ML products." The company claims in its product introduction. "The hardware platform, which focuses on edge AI, is the size of a biscuit and enables customers to evaluate Infineon's machine learning platform Imagimob Studio, as well as ready-to-deploy ML models and other software products."
According to Linux Gizmos, the CY8CKIT-062S2-AI development board uses a PSoC 62S2 microcontroller with two different Arm cores on board: The Arm Cortex-M4, which runs at up to 150MHz, and the Cortex-M0+, which runs at up to 100MHz, combine into a "microcontroller subsystem" with cryptographic acceleration, real-time clock (RTC), 8kB instruction cache, 1MB static RAM (SRAM), and 2MB flash memory.
Despite the compact size of the development board, it is equipped with a comprehensive array of onboard sensors: including a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) and dedicated three-axis magnetometer, a pressure sensor, a pair of digital MEMS microphones, and an Infineon XENSIV 60GHz radar sensor. The radar sensor includes a finite state machine (FSM) to reduce power consumption and processing load on the host microcontroller, provides human presence detection at a range of nearly 50 feet, and has submillimeter motion sensing.
The data input from all these sensors can be used for machine learning models on the device - and if you want to get started soon, the company is ready to deploy a range of products. In the meantime, if you prefer to do it yourself, the suite can also be linked to Imagimob Studio for data capture, custom model development, and tuning. In addition, the development board is equipped with onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules for wireless communication.
With this development board, Infineon provides developers with a powerful tool that enables them to move faster into edge AI and ML applications and advance the development of a new generation of smart devices.
