Infineon's single-chip solution for NFC passive locks enables KISS to take advantage of new smart lock solutions

Us-based Keep It Simple Storage (KISS), a provider of advanced solutions to streamline the operation of self-storage facilities, has transitioned from manual locks to fully automated remote control safety lock systems. With Infineon Technologies AG's smart lock solution based on NFC technology and with a battery-free lock body, the storage rental service provider uses smart locks to ensure the safety of storage facilities.

With Infineon Technologies AG's smart lock solution based on NFC technology and with a battery-free lock body, the storage rental service provider uses smart locks to ensure the safety of storage facilities.

 

     The KISS Smart lock system enables owners and operators to replace manual locks with smart locks without the need for additional devices that cause interference, such as batteries, Bluetooth or cables. This system provides the industry with unprecedented real-time troubleshooting and remote maintenance capabilities to solve common problems in self-storage facility management, such as auctions, lost keys, and lock changes. In addition, operators do not need to deploy round-the-clock maintenance teams in response to individual lock failures. The smart lock uses Infineon's NAC1080 microcontroller (MCU), a single-chip solution that integrates a half-bridge driver IC for applications such as NFC passive locks.

     Infineon's NAC1080 integrates a half-bridge driver IC and an energy harvesting module, making it possible to develop intelligent actuators in single-chip solutions with fewer components. Through the NFC interface, the NAC1080 MCU allows users to directly control the device using a smartphone, enabling a single KISS lock system to manage multiple storage facilities. In addition, the system extends advanced on-premises and cloud capabilities through mobile applications. The NAC1080 also reduces material costs and supports miniaturization of product designs.

 

     The MCU supports a variety of operating modes, either in passive mode using the energy collected by the phone through the NFC function, or in active mode through the battery. The NAC1080 also integrates an AES128 accelerator and a random number generator to encrypt and decrypt data while achieving ultra-low power consumption. In addition to NFC passive locks, the NAC1080 can also be used as an emergency backup power supply and as an NFC IC interface for electronic devices.
