Infineon unveils new automotive Smart High side power switch

     Infineon Technologies offers the new Automotive Intelligent High side power switch product family PROFET load Protection 12V. The combination of adjustable overcurrent limits and capacitive load switching modes provides a flexible response to the diverse requirements of modern secondary distribution and power protection mechanisms integrated with safety-critical ADAS. The new dual - and single-channel devices offer A wide current limit range between 0.3A and 8.7A, depending on RDS(on).

     This feature provides a level of protection that can be set according to the needs of the system without microcontroller involvement. It avoids the peak current that threatens the load and provides rapid fault isolation for the distribution side in the event of overload due to a load failure, such as in a sensor fusion box. Loads with a high volume share, such as ADAS or display modules, can be switched on quickly using the device's capacitive load switching (CLS) mode. The CLS mode enables it to charge several millibars while remaining within the safe operating zone of the smart high-voltage power switch, improving the robustness of the overall system.

     In addition, PRO SIL iso26262 compliant devices simplify their use in functional safety-related applications by providing safety application instructions. In addition, the best-in-class low current detection accuracy facilitates accurate module diagnosis and monitoring. The series has a wide operating voltage range from 3V(crank :2.7V) to 28V, with adjustable overcurrent limits and CLS mode, providing maximum load flexibility. If the load or system requirements change, such as variant handling, the simulated overcurrent limit threshold can be easily adapted to the new conditions. This is done by simply changing the resistance connected to the OCT pins.

     In addition to flexibility, this feature allows hardware-based wire protection to protect time-independent loads. The CLS mode can also extend the load potential and respond to increased capacitive loads such as modules. Rated 2-3A, the series consists of two 90mOhm and two 50mOhm devices that can be used as single - and dual-channel automotive intelligent high-voltage power switches. The proven PG-TS-DAC-14 package is highly compatible with other SMART7 devices such as PROFET +2 12V. Loads with high capacitance shares can be easily handled with the integrated CLS mode, allowing large capacitors to charge quickly within the safe operating area of 12V protected by the PROFET load.

     First-class high current sensing accuracy tolerances (kILIS) allow high accuracy current sensing in the low current range. To support the device design process, the product line is integrated into the PROFET protection tool provided by Infineon Development Center. This tool helps to evaluate the system protection capability of the PROFET load protection 12V device with a given wire and load profile. It also calculates the correct resistor value that can be adjusted over the current limit.
