
Power Integrations announced that InnoSwitch 4-CZ series high frequency, zero voltage switching (ZVS) flyback switching ICs have added new products. When used together with ClampZero active clamping IC of Power Integrations or HiperPFS-5 GaN power factor correction IC recently released, the new IC can easily meet the latest USB PD 3.1 standard and design adapters and chargers up to 220W.
"Business travelers need lightweight, compact and powerful adapters that can quickly charge all their important devices. After the new InnoSwitch4-CZ and ClampZero IC further expand the power range, charger/adapter design engineers can easily design single output and multiple output power supplies that meet the USB PD 3.1 standard, and make the power density easily exceed 23W per cubic inch." Edward Ong, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Power Integrations, said that, "Even under 220W output power, the high efficiency of this series can minimize heat generation; any active device does not need a large heat sink. The maximum switching frequency up to 140kHz can reduce the size of the transformer, and the high integration can almost halve the number of passive components, MOSFETs and diodes. The excessive number of components makes the PCB layout meet the safety standards, posing challenges."
InnoSwitch4-CZ IC adopts ultra-thin InSOP-24D package, with durable 750V PowiGaN integrated inside ™ Primary switch, active clamping drive and synchronous rectification. The secondary side detection uses the FluxLink of Power Integrations ™ High speed communication technology can provide excellent constant voltage/constant current accuracy.
Ong added: "The use of non complementary active clamping mode allows the design to work in continuous conduction (CCM) and discontinuous conduction (DCM) modes. This cross mode operation allows the product to easily cope with the application characteristics of wide load/input voltage range often encountered in USB PD applications."
The no-load power consumption of InnoSwitch4-CZ IC is less than 30mW when the input voltage detection circuit is working. These ICs have a complete set of protection characteristics, including automatic restart or latch fault response mode for output overvoltage and undervoltage protection, multiple output undervoltage fault thresholds, and primary over temperature protection with latch or hysteresis response characteristics.
