Intel has officially announced RealSense L515, a small, high-precision laser scanning product designed primarily for room applications that helps compact smart devices accurately scan and create 3D point cloud maps of the world around them. According to reports, the RealSense L515 has a diameter of 61mm, a thickness of only 26mm, and a weight of only 100g, which is very small and can be integrated into smart hardware or installed on handheld devices for mobile use.
Although the Intel RealSense L515 is very small, but can provide high-resolution 3D depth information, it is equipped with a 1920 x 1080@30fps RGB sensor, a 1024 x 768@30fps depth (ToF) sensor, And the BMI085 inertial measurement unit (i.e., accelerometer and gyroscope) supplied by Bosch. In addition, Intel has developed its own MEMS microgalvanometer system, which allows the laser to scan the scene at lower power.
Intel says that despite less than 3.5W of power, the RealSense L515 can still support an operating range of 0.25 to 9m (0.8 to 30 feet), with an RGB field of view of 70°± 3° x 43° ±2°, and a depth field of view of 70°±2° x 55°±2°. Capable of scanning scenes at up to 23 million depth data points per second. In addition, the latency of photto-depth information feedback as low as 4ms makes it sufficiently responsive for autonomous applications, and its built-in vision processor minimizes motion blur to quickly and accurately capture high-speed scenes, such as gesture recognition and hand tracking.
Finally, the L515 supports the same RealSense SDK 2.0 and is open source licensed for Windows, Linux, Android, and macOS platforms, as well as development environments such as Unity, Unreal, Unreal, and Python. In summary, the Intel RealSense L515 should be the smallest high-resolution lidar available, and it is also very low power consumption, and the price is only $349. Intel RealSense L515 is now available for pre-order and is expected to ship in late April next year.
Intel expects the product to play an important role in the logistics industry, such as tracking inventory and performing accurate volume measurements of products with RealSense L515 Zizen, as well as other applications including 3D scanning, retail, healthcare and robotics.
