JAI Go-X series cameras for automation professional manufacturers to provide effective quality control of electronic components

Recently, the company successfully implemented an automated inspection system for electronic applications using Go-X series CMOS cameras from industrial camera specialist JAI.

 

     The key to success for automation systems integration specialists is to carefully procure and integrate technologies and solutions that best fit the customer's task. For Rimburgs, based in Malaysia, the approach applies to all aspects of an enterprise's business, from implementing the latest software solutions, to designing and building industrial robotics systems, as well as integrating state-of-the-art vision systems for the most precise results.

 

     In a recent case study, Rimburgs helped a key electronics industry customer build a fully automated high-efficiency inspection solution, a task that was clearly understood from the outset by the developers to be aided by an image processing system of the right specifications and capabilities. Sow Jing Zhi, Technical Support Engineer at Rimburgs, explains, "Our customer wants to inspect and accurately measure the position of the thermal conductivity pads on the aluminium sheet. When thermal pads are installed outside the 0.5mm tolerance, or when the Angle deviation is more than 5 degrees, the parts produced will not be qualified."

 

     Rimburgs chose a 5-megapixel GOX-5103C-PGE CMOS color camera from JAI with a global shutter that provides the image quality required for this application. The camera was installed at a working distance of 140mm directly above the test target, using a diffuse ring light with a diameter of 130mm and a C-port lens suitable for megapixel cameras to ensure the best image quality was captured.

 

     This application required a solution to verify that thermal pads previously placed on aluminum fins and attached with adhesive were in place. Commenting on the successful implementation of the JAI solution, Sow said, "Rimburgs is a company specializing in machine and equipment customization and has gained extensive experience in optimizing the design of inspection systems for the electronics industry over the years. "We are very pleased that JAI's GOX-5103C-PGE CMOS color camera fully meets our application needs."

 

     Besides the high resolution and global shutter, the Rimburgs developers chose the JAI GOX-5103C-PGE for other reasons. "The image captured from the top down was inverted for mechanical reasons, so an image inversion was required to ensure that the image would display correctly," Sow stressed. This camera has that capability and the necessary shadow and color correction features."

 

     The correction function of the JAI GOX-5103C-PGE camera also brings more confidence to users. "The material variation of the aluminum sheet can cause high contrast differences on the surface, making it difficult to detect the specified location of the thermal pad," Sow said. "The JAI camera's sophisticated shadow and color correction features minimize this error." In addition, JAI comes with a six-year warranty on the camera. "JAI's confidence in its technology and the quality of its products is unique in the image processing industry, which is another important reason why we chose JAI's camera," said Sow.
