KEMET offers thin film EMI rejection capacitors for automotive, industrial, consumer and energy applications

Yageo's KEMET, the world's leading supplier of electronic components, announced the launch of its new R52 series of compact polypropylene film X2 EMI (electromagnetic interference) suppression capacitors. The series meets the growing demand for smaller, large capacitor X2 class solutions for EMI suppression in automotive, industrial, consumer and energy applications.

     Yageo's KEMET, the world's leading supplier of electronic components, announced the launch of its new R52 series of compact polypropylene film X2 EMI (electromagnetic interference) suppression capacitors. The series meets the growing demand for smaller, large capacitor X2 class solutions for EMI suppression in automotive, industrial, consumer and energy applications.

 

     The R52 series offers capacitance values up to 22µF, 85/85 THBIIB grades, and long life stability under harsh environmental conditions, while being on average 60% smaller than other X2 solutions in the same capacitance range on the market. These features alone make the R52 an excellent X2-class solution that addresses size, capacitance, and reliability challenges for design engineers across multiple industries.

 

     The R52 series meets the AEC-Q200 automotive standard and can be used in the design of DC/DC converters in on-board battery charger systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. Its unique design features are ideal for industrial and consumer applications, such as EMI filtering for VFD (variable frequency drivers) and LED (light emitting diode) drivers. The series can also support applications with higher energy density, such as compact capacitive power supplies. The R52 capacitors are designed to meet the high reliability standards required for smart grid hardware - which is often located in hard-to-reach locations and therefore cannot provide regular services.

 

     Existing solutions comparable to the R52 series are either larger in size or require shunt capacitors in their design. These solutions take up more PCB (printed circuit board) space, resulting in increased costs and reduced reliability. Compared to comparable X2 thin film solutions on the market, the R52 series offers the highest capacitance density and a smaller plate area.
