Kioxia introduces the industry's first embedded flash memory device UFS version 4.0 for automotive applications

     Kioxia Corporation announced the introduction of the industry's first Universal Flash Memory (UFS) version 4.0 embedded flash device sample for automotive applications. These new, higher-performing devices are compact in size and have fast embedded storage transfer speeds for a variety of next-generation automotive applications, including telematics systems, infotainment systems, and ADAS. Kioxia's UFS products have improved performance - including approximately 100% faster sequential read speeds and approximately 40% faster sequential write speeds - enabling these applications to take advantage of 5G's connectivity benefits for faster system startup times and a better user experience.

     Kioxia was the first to introduce UFS technology  and continues to push the technology forward. Its new UFS version 4.0 device integrates the company's innovative BiCS FLASH™ 3D flash memory and controller in a JEDEC standard package. UFS 4.0 integrates MIPI M-PHY 5.0 and UniPro 2.0 to support theoretical interface speeds of up to 23.2 gigabits per second (Gbp/s) per channel or 46.4 Gbp/s per device. UFS 4.0 is backward compatible with UFS 3.1.

     The new Kioxia device supports the High Speed Link Start Sequence (HS-LSS) function, enabling link start (M-PHY and UniPro initialization sequence) between the device and the host to be performed at A faster HS-G1 Rate A (1248 megabits per second) than traditional UFS. The link startup time is expected to be reduced by approximately 70% compared to traditional methods.
