Knowles Capacitors expand V series single-layer capacitors

Knowles Precision Devices announced the introduction of the new 100nF capacitance capacitor, a new member of the V Series single-layer capacitor family. The 100nF, high frequency, wire bonded single-layer capacitor is perfectly suited for GaN and GaA amplifier applications where its small size and microwave performance are critical.

 

     "We are excited that the new 100nF single-layer capacitor will expand our V-Series product family and bring improved bypass performance and circuit integration to our customers," said Ian Tovar, Product Manager of Lou's Capacitors Business group. The temperature stability of the X7R and the wire bonding assembly become an integral part of the high performance circuit.

 

     The V Series single-layer capacitors, including the newly introduced 100nF single-layer capacitors, are designed to provide higher capacity values in a smaller size. The 100nF single-layer capacitor uses Class II dielectrics with X7R temperature characteristics for both isolation and RF bypass applications in the wide band range. Other uses include filtering, tuning and coupling applications. The 100nF single-layer capacitor has X7R temperature stability, is RoHS compliant and provides the highest humidity resistance (MSL-1). It has a high capacitance density and is suitable for conductive epoxy or gold-tin welding assemblies.

 

     In RF bypass applications, 100nF capacitors help eliminate power line noise. Broadband gain amplifiers based on monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMIC) need to prevent RF noise from the supply line. The power supply noise will mix with the RF signal and affect the signal-to-noise ratio, which may cause stray output. The bypass capacitor establishes an effective grounding path and filters out the RF noise energy from the power supply line before entering the gain phase.
