Israeli coherent LiDAR (LiDAR) technology developer Lidwave has announced the launch of a 4D on-chip Lidar evaluation platform that can be used as a development platform for selected partners. Lidwave's sensor evaluation platform is fully configurable to study different use cases in a variety of fields. The platform is capable of streaming real-time high-quality raw data, including high-resolution 3D maps of the real-time range, the reflectivity and instantaneous speed of the surrounding environment, etc., to provide a complete dynamic dataset of the scene without any complex computation or post-processing.
Yehuda Vidal, CEO of Lidwave, said: "We successfully developed our first chip and launched our evaluation platform that will help our automotive and industrial partners develop the next generation of products. This marks another important step in the manufacturability of 3D sensors for automotive and industrial applications."
Despite the impressive development of lidar technology in recent years, obstacles in its integration still limit the landing of many important applications of 3D sensing. The need for high-speed GHz electronics and labor-intensive optical calibration makes liDAR sensors costly, less reliable, and limited in performance.
Lidwave uses the unique coherence properties of light to extract depth information to enable 3D sensing. "This paradigm shift allows us to significantly reduce the bandwidth of the system while maintaining high-resolution depth information and improving sensitivity," said Uri Weiss, chief scientist at Lidwave.
Lidwave's innovative FCR (Limited Coherence Ranging) technology enables a true single-station design, enabling pixel-level integration of the light transmitter and receiver in a single-chip liDAR sensor. This technology reduces the bandwidth of the system by a factor of 30, while maintaining high-resolution depth information and improving sensitivity.
Yossi Kabessa, Chief Technology Officer at Lidwave, said: "Our exclusive technology has attracted a lot of attention and the market is very interested in our breakthrough technology. The launch of this evaluation platform enables our selected partners to field test the unique performance of FCR™ and collaborate on the design of Lidwave's next generation product line."
