MPS (Monolithic Power Systems) MP5981 Hot Swap Controller solution IC

     Monolithic Power System (MPS) MP5981 Hot Swap Controller Solution IC is a monolithic integrated controller and switch that contains high-side MosFETs and other circuits. The MP5981 comes in a LGA-32 (5mmx5mm) package. These circuits enable it to work independently or be controlled by a hot-swap controller.

     The MP5981 drives up to 50A continuous current per unit at room temperature. When there is airflow, the continuous current can reach 60A. The MP5981 limits the inrush current of the load when the circuit card is plugged into the power supply of the live backplane, thus limiting the voltage drop of the backplane.

     The MP5981 limits the internal MOSFET current through a current-limiting reference input and a soft-start ramp control grid voltage. Monolithic Power Supply System (MPS) MP5981 provides many features to simplify system design. It provides an integrated current mirror to monitor output current and on-mode temperature sensing, eliminating the need for external current sensing power resistors, power MosFeTs and heat sensing devices. MP5981 Detects power FET gate, source and leakage short circuit conditions. It can also provide feedback to the hot-swap controller via a fault report output (GOK). MP5981 can be used for higher current applications. During soft startup, all parallel devices actively share current.
