Maxim Integrated Products introduces low-power microcontrollers

     Maxim Integrated Products announced the launch of the MAX32670 low-power Arm® Cortex-M4 microcontroller (MCU) with a floating-point computing unit to reduce power consumption and size while improving system reliability, ideal for industrial, health and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The device protects all embedded memory, including flash memory and SRAM, with error correction (ECC), providing the highest reliability MCU.

     In many industrial and IoT applications, high-energy particles or other harsh conditions can destroy memory in normal operation, causing it to flip over (especially when the semiconductor process is down to 40nm, or even lower). This interrupts MCU work and produces wrong or even dangerous results. To prevent such catastrophic consequences, the MAX32670 uses ECC to protect its entire memory space (384kB flash and 128kB SRAM) against bit flipping, significantly increasing reliability. With ECC, hardware can detect and correct bit errors, avoiding the adverse impact of bit flip errors on real-world applications.

     The MAX32670 is capable of executing flash commands at 40µW/MHz power consumption, a 40 percent reduction compared to the closest competing solutions. The lowest power solution for battery-powered sensor applications. In addition, the MAX32670 reduces the size of the solution by 50% compared to the nearest competitor, helping developers reduce solution size and material costs.
