     Maxim Integrated Products announced the MAX77654 Single Inductor Multiple Output (SIMO) power management IC (PMIC), which helps consumer product developers reduce solution size by 50% and extend battery life by 20%. This next generation SIMO PMIC uses only a single inductor to provide three outputs with an efficiency of up to 91%, a 16% improvement over traditional four-chip systems. Due to the dramatically reduced size of the solution, system designers are able to integrate more functionality into wearables, ear wearables and other small-size consumer products than traditional power solutions. The MAX77654 is built on Maxim Integrated's highly reliable SIMO PMIC patented technology.

 

     For compact consumer products, designers must also consider extending battery life (or shrinking battery capacity), as well as reducing heat and noise while pursuing smaller solution sizes. The MAX77654 SIMO PMIC replaces the 3-way boost/buck converter and 3 inductors with a single converter and single inductor architecture to help system designers overcome space constraints.

 

     The device also replaces a 2-way LDO/ load switch, a battery charger, and additional passive components, reducing the solution size by 50%. The MAX77654 delivers up to 91% productivity and 20% longer battery life, significantly improving the end-user experience. The device's turn-off current is less than 500nA, and the 5-way regulator consumes only 6µA of supply current, allowing designers to add more features to ultra-low-power consumer products. Compared to single-inductance system power solutions, the MAX77654 has a lower heating, which can reduce the temperature of the system circuit board by more than 20°C. In addition, the SIMO PMIC offers minimal output voltage ripple (below 20mVp-p) for noise-sensitive power supply designs.
