Maxim introduces a 50% smaller power management IC for automotive displays

Maxim Integrated announced the launch of the MAX16923 4-output display power IC with watchdog timer to help automotive system designers increase the number of displays used and reduce design complexity. Using the MAX16923 single-chip power management solution instead of four or five discrete ics dramatically reduces the size of the solution, allowing the automotive industry to easily increase the number of displays in each vehicle from two to five or more.

     Nowadays, automotive Oems are attracting consumers with new features such as advanced dashboards, infotainment systems, head-up displays, central displays, rear seat entertainment systems and smart rear-view mirrors, thus increasing the number of displays inside cars. Adding the power circuits needed for these displays will compete for space with the numerous electronic units in the car, and the resulting complexity poses a huge challenge for designers.

 

     The MAX16923 integrates a 4-way power rail and a high and low voltage buck converter, high and low voltage LDO regulators, electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression, and a watchdog timer in a single chip IC. Its highly integrated design reduces the number of ics in automotive power solutions from four to five to one without causing a significant temperature rise. The IC effectively reduces design complexity and power solution size by 50% compared to the closest competing solutions. In addition, EMI suppression and watchdog timers help improve the reliability of each display.
