Maxim Integrated Products announced the launch of the MAX25430 100W USB-powered (PD) liter/buck controller and protector, providing the industry's smallest size and lowest cost solution for car chargers. As the most integrated solution in the industry, the MAX25430 reduces the design size by 40% compared to the competition and offers the lowest cost in the industry, helping to increase the number of USB PD ports in the vehicle.
As more and more USB PD chargers are integrated into the interior of passenger cars, the capabilities of multimedia hubs for automotive applications, including rear entertainment modules and wireless audio units, continue to expand. Size, cost, and power become constraints in system design - the MAX25430 helps address these issues.
The MAX25430 integrates a USB Type C Port controller (TCPC) power regulator, VCONN cable power supply, buck-boost controller and protection circuit. Due to the elimination of the heat sink and metal housing, the solution further reduces the size by 40% and the BOM cost by 25% compared to the multi-IC design. In addition, the MAX25430 achieves a temperature reduction of 20 degrees Celsius (°C) at full power operating conditions compared to competing on-board USB PD solutions. No matter how many ports are supported, only one microcontroller is required, while competing schemes require an MCU attached to each port.
As a complete solution, Maxim Integrated also offers the MAX25410 on-board USB PD port Protector and the MAX25431 40V H-bridge buck-boost controller for automotive applications to meet a variety of USB charging design needs.
