Maxim introduces compact LED drivers

     Maxim Integrated Products announced the launch of the MAX25610A and MAX25610B LED drivers to provide high-performance automotive lighting designers with a simpler, more efficient high-brightness LED (HBLED) drive solution. Synchronous buck, Buck-Boostled drives /DC-DC converters provide a complete solution with industry-leading EMI performance without compromising efficiency or size. These ics can drive up to eight HBLED directly from the automotive battery, integrate numerous external components inside the chip, save bill of materials (BOM) cost and space, and are ideal for automotive lighting systems as well as industrial and commercial lighting applications.

     As the automotive industry's transition to LED lighting continues to accelerate, designers are facing many challenges to improve efficiency, simplify designs and reduce system costs, while also meeting stringent EMI requirements. Traditionally, designers who want to be certified by EMI standards have had to incorporate multiple components into their systems. To achieve performance gains, designers often need to compromise on space and system efficiency, while addressing heat dissipation and high costs.

     The MAX25610A/B LED driver combines small size, high efficiency and excellent EMI performance to easily solve all of these problems. These ics support wide-voltage inputs, reducing design complexity and bill of materials (BOM) costs and increasing power efficiency. The IC accepts wide voltage inputs from 5V to 36V for buck-boost LED driver applications, with power efficiency up to 90% in buck-boost mode. These LED drivers integrate internal current detection and high - and low-side switching MOSFETs to reduce solution size and cost. The driver provides programmable PWM dimming, enabling precision dimming control without the use of a microcontroller. In addition, the MAX25610B supports operation at 2.2MHz switching frequency, helping to achieve a more compact solution.
