Maxim introduces high-performance analog ics for building automation, automotive and backup power systems

Maxim Integrated Products announced the launch of three modular, highly integrated analog ics to help designers deliver greater efficiency and performance for increasingly miniaturized electronic systems. The MAX41464 sub-1GHz wireless transmitter, MAX38888 backup power regulator and MAX16141 36V logic "or" FET controller are used in a wide range of building automation, industrial, automotive and portable applications.

The MAX41464 sub-1GHz wireless transmitter, MAX38888 backup power regulator and MAX16141 36V logic "or" FET controller are used in a wide range of building automation, industrial, automotive and portable applications.

 

System designers are always looking for new ways to improve system efficiency and performance, extend battery life, add new features, and reduce size and bill of materials (BOM) costs. Maxim's latest analog ics provide industry-leading capabilities that pave the way for these goals.

 

Delivers the industry's highest output power Sub-GHz FSK transmitter

The MAX41464 is a sub-1GHz frequency shift keying (FSK) transmitter that delivers up to +16dBm of output power and supports a wide range of wireless sensors for long-distance communication, including building automation and security systems. The transmitter is powered by a single button battery with an operating current of only 12mA, which consumes 30% less power than the nearest competitor, effectively extending battery life.

 

The transmitter can be fully programmed via the I2C interface. Operating with a 16MHz single crystal oscillator, preset frequency modes require no programming and can be connected to an external microcontroller via a single-wire interface. In preset mode, the device also provides automatic turn-off with a turn-off current of less than 20nA, and the active data detector provides automatic wake-up. The device frequency hopping range is 300MHz to 960MHz and supports global standards. The IC can operate in extreme temperature ranges: -40°C to 105°C.

 

A backup power solution that provides uninterrupted power to critical systems

Maxim's Continua family of backup power regulators sets a new industry standard for backup power supply design for critical systems. High performance regulators manage backup power sources such as super capacitors or capacitor banks. When the main power supply is turned off, continuous power supply to critical system components can be achieved within seconds. The MAX38888 reversible buck/boost regulator is the first product in the Continua family with an industry-leading 95% peak efficiency. In buck mode, the MAX38888 has an input voltage range of 2.5 to 5V, charging the energy storage device with a peak inductive current of up to 500mA.

 

When the main power supply fails, the MAX38888 activates the boost operating mode, generating 2.5 to 5V output voltage from the energy storage device, continuous discharge up to 0.8V, and peak inductive current up to 2.5A. For portable electronic devices that use batteries as their primary power supply, the MAX38888 has a static current 15 times lower than competing solutions in idle mode, thereby extending battery life up to two times. The MAX38888 has a solution size of 38mm2, which is 33% smaller than the closest competing solution.

 

Ensure the safety of automotive electrical systems

The MAX16141 is a 36V or operating FET controller with built-in voltage and current circuit breakers that monitor overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, reverse current and overtemperature conditions for automotive power applications such as infotainment systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The controller offers a full set of system protection features with a typical response time of only 0.3µs to reverse current activity, improving system retention time and functionality under transient automotive conditions. By supporting true shutdown mode to prevent leakage current, the current consumption of invalid circuits is minimized. The controller effectively reduces the total power consumption of the system, giving priority to the engine starting power supply over all other electrical systems.
