Maxim's high efficiency, 5.5V input, 1.8A / 3.1A converter is designed to improve battery life

     Maxim Integrated's MAX77827 is a highly efficient buck-boost voltage regulator for 1-battery lithium-ion powered ultra-low static current (6μa) applications. The device supports input voltages from 1.8V to 5.5V and output voltage ranges from 2.3V to 5.3V. buck-boost regulators are available in two different switching current classes (1.8 A and 3.1 A) to optimize the size of external components for a given load current requirement. With the 1.8A switching current limiting option, the MAX77827 can support up to 1.0A load current in buck mode and 900 mA starting mode (V(in) = 3.0V, V(OUT) = 3.3V).

     The MAX77827 offers 96% peak efficiency, making it the ideal DC/DC converter solution for providing track for battery-powered portable applications. The regulator has an adjustable output voltage that can be programmed from 2.3V to 5.3V through a resistor. The two GPIO pins support the mandatory PWM (FPWM) enable function and the Power ok (POK) indicator.

     The control algorithm allows for efficient, excellent line/load transient response, and a seamless transition between step-down and step-up modes. These features provide design flexibility that allows the MAX77827 to cover a wide range of applications and usage situations while minimizing board space.
