Maxim's new MAX14836 dual sensor transceiver

     The MAX14836 24V dual output sensor transceiver from Maxim Integrated. The device is a sensor driver capable of driving two sensors through dual 24V outputs, both of which can be configured in push-pull, high-side or low-side operating mode. The device also has rich fault detection and reporting capabilities and two on-chip linear regulators. This new sensor transceiver is designed for industrial applications that require sensor monitoring.

     The Maxim Integrated MAX14836 24V Dual output Sensor transceiver allows two sensors to communicate with the target microcontroller via an SPI interface that allows the MAX14836 to be configured and monitored with the target sensor. DIO drives can handle loads up to 3µF, while DO drives can handle loads up to 2µF. The programmable swing rate control function can be used to control electromagnetic interference.

     The MAX14836 also features two linear regulators that generate 5V and 3.3V voltages, respectively. The 5V regulator can drive up to 30mA of external load current, while the 3.3V regulator can drive up to 20mA of current. The 5V regulator powers both internal analog and digital functions when not used as a regulator. For fail-safe reasons, the output driver is automatically turned off when either voltage regulator or chip voltage drops to a preset threshold.

     The device has a wide range of on-chip fault detection capabilities, including thermal protection such as DIO driver short circuit over 650µs and DO driver short circuit over 440µs, reverse polarity protection, undervoltage detection, overheat warning, and thermal shutdown
