Melexis has announced that its smart IVT (Current, Voltage, temperature) sensors MLX91230 and MLX91231 have received ASIL C safety certification. The Hall effect chip MLX91230 and the splitter interface chip MLX91231 simplify the implementation of the ISO 26262 ASIL C (D) architecture for critical vehicle functions such as battery management systems (BMS), smart fuses, and high-voltage charging systems.
Current sensing is critical to critical vehicle functions such as battery management systems (BMS), smart fuses and high-voltage charging systems, so it is necessary to ensure a high level of functional safety. New security level certifications for MLX91230 and MLX91231 greatly reduce the complexity and effort involved in building systems that comply with ASIL C (D) standards.
Both devices integrate a wide range of intelligent functions, including microcontroller units (MCUS) and on-chip flash memory, and support custom software deployment and extensive compensation for system defects. Diagnosable OCD allows direct input to the fuse driver, enabling simple deployment of smart fuses with fewer devices required. In addition, the ASIL C safety level is suitable for current sensing functions and OCD, as well as additional temperature and voltage measurement channels. Optional LIN or UART outputs enable integration with 12V battery applications and power distribution modules, as well as direct communication with BMS or UARt-Over-CAN.
