
Melexis announced the launch of a new anti-stray field inductive chip MLX90510. This high-speed location decoder minimizes the work required by the electronic control unit (ECU) and achieves optimal accuracy in extreme mechanical and electrical conditions. The MLX90510 has excellent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), making it ideal for motor control, electronic brake booster, and electronic power steering applications.
The MLX90510 is Melexis' first open market inductive sensor chip. The chip delivers excellent accuracy below +/-0.36° at speeds up to 240,000 e-rpm. The MLX90510 is designed for high accuracy, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and safety requirements for high-speed sensing applications, and is primarily used in E-GM, electronic brake booster and electronic power steering applications.
"Efficient electric powertrains typically require stator supply currents to be synchronized with rotor position for optimal efficiency and torque characteristic control." Lorenzo Lugani, product manager for inductive sensors at Melexis. "Thanks to the MLX90510's digital architecture and rugged design, automotive engineers are able to take advantage of the chip's robust electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance to minimize electronic control unit (ECU) workload, thereby reducing module costs."
The MLX90510 is used in combination with an array of PCB-based coils in an extensible design that can easily accommodate different pole numbers of the motor. The chip supports a variety of induction modes for both on-axis (shaft-end) and off-axis (shaft-side or shaft-pass) applications, maximizing the flexibility of inductive coil design to easily cope with extremely demanding mechanical constraints. With overvoltage and reverse polarity protection (+/-24V power supply, +/-18V output), the MLX90510 is extremely robust to electrical challenges. In addition, the sensor is AEC-Q100 compliant and can operate in the extended stage temperature range from -40 ° C to +160 ° C. MLX90510 fully complies with ISO 26262 ASIL-C functional safety guidelines and supports system-level integration up to ASIL-D.
