Melexis introduces a single coil fan and pump driver

     Melexis has announced the introduction of a new single-coil fan and pump driver IC MLX 90412 with peak drive capability of 2.2A. The MLX 90412 combines high performance and low noise operation for a wide range of home appliances and industrial applications. Suitable for applications with drive loads up to 35 W, it complements the previously released MLX 90411 by adding high-power options to the series.

     The MLX 90412 operates from 3.5V to 32V and can withstand transient voltages up to 40V. Therefore, it is ideal not only for devices with 12 V and 24 V power supplies, but also for portable applications with up to seven lithium-ion batteries (~29 V). Suitable household appliance applications include drainage pumps and pumping pumps for washing machines and dishwashers; Fans, blowers and cross-flow blowers, table fans and pedestal fans in air conditioning units; A variety of lithium-ion battery-based applications, including vacuum cleaners and robotic lawn mowers.

     The device also offers a variety of motor commutation options to meet user needs for high torque, low noise and low vibration. The patented adaptive control algorithm ensures maximum efficiency with the lowest reverse current over the entire speed range and is not affected by motor inductance or the applied lead Angle.

     The device is available in open and closed loop speed control, with multiple dynamic (PI) Settings and electrical speeds up to 45,000 e-rpm. Closed-loop speed control reduces speed tolerances to +/- 3%. The MLX 90412 can be combined with low noise current dressing to provide unprecedented noise performance in the same price range, with the advantage of being cost-effective and replacing expensive three-phase solutions in many challenging applications. In addition, in pump applications, the closed loop can also be used as no-load or dry running protection, preventing the pump from operating at excessive speeds, while preventing high noise and early failure.

     The MLX 90412 features a variety of integrated protection features, including lock-rotor protection, overheat protection, overvoltage protection, short circuit protection and current limiting, as well as a built-in power clamp. The MLX 90412, like the MLX 90411, can be programmed via an I2C interface, and all options can be configured via on-chip EEPROM. The MLX 90412 comes in a 3mm x 3mm DFN10 package.
