Melexis has introduced a new generation of current sensor chips for automotive power conversion applications with higher resolution, optional 3.3V or 5V operating voltages, and integrated circuits for overcurrent detection

     Global Microelectronics Engineering Corporation MELEXIS launched a new generation of current sensor chip suitable for automotive power conversion applications. It has higher resolution, optional working voltage of 3.3V or 5V, and integrated flow detection functions. MLX91219 is a traditional Hall current sensor chip, combined with the C -type iron magnetic core, which can measure the current from 200A to 2000A. MLX91218 is an IMC-HALL current sensor chip. It uses a flexible U-shaped shield to resist interference and can measure the current from 200A to 2000A.

 

     Both sensor chips have greatly increased signal -to -noise ratio (SNR), almost twice the previous generations. MLX91218 and MLX91219 meet the AEC Q100 standards, have high lineivity, and the full range error does not exceed ± 0.3%. It provides higher accuracy for high -speed applications such as managing motor control, inverters and converters. (BMS) Andreshings monitoring. The two sensor chips are minimized through thermal drift, controlled the voltage offset within +/- 5mv, and control the sensitivity within +/- 1%, which can ensure the accuracy within the wide temperature range.

 

     MLX91218 and MLX91219 can choose 3.3V or 5V working voltage. Designers can directly use the circuit containing the new 3.3V low -voltage micro -controller, or use it with the traditional 5V device. Both MLX91218 and MLX91219 integrate the circuit of overcurrent detection function (OCD). Given that this circuit usually uses an external window comparator to implement outside the film, these two sensor chips can further simplify the system design, save circuit board space, and reduce the cost of material lists. The overcurrent threshold can be set internally during the initial configuration of the product. Subsequent products will be encapsulated with SOIC8, equipped with additional pins, which can use the outer part of the outer parts to improve the threshold voltage setting accuracy. There are two indicator pins of MLX91218 and MLX91219, which can display the overcurrent state -related internal and external thresholds, and the response time is 2 μs and 10 μs, respectively.

 

    Both sensor chips provide optional analog output. Users can choose fixed output or proportional to the output of the power supply voltage. With 300kHz bandwidth and fast response time, MLX91218 and MLX91219 are suitable for circuits designed for working at high switching speed and base frequency to minimize the phase delay in the control circuit. In addition, the subsequent MLX91218 will use Melexis's patented IMC® (magnetic point) to optimize the magnetic field forming, thereby achieving compact and lightweight shielding.
