5G technology requires that the synchronization of time source in the whole packet switching network is ten times more accurate than 4G. The first single chip, high integration, low power consumption, multi-channel integrated circuit (IC) launched by Microchip Technology Inc. (American microchip technology company) is equipped with the widely used reliable IEEE 1588 Precise Time Protocol (PTP) and clock recovery algorithm software modules, making it possible to achieve 5G performance.
Rami Kanama, Vice President of Timing and Communication Business Department of Microchip, said, "Our latest ZL3073x/63x/64x network synchronization platform realizes complex measurement, calibration and adjustment functions, which significantly reduces the time error of network equipment to meet the most stringent 5G requirements. The unique flexible architecture to achieve the necessary channel density and the high-performance, low jitter synthesizer help simplify the 5G wireless access network (RAN) Design of timing card, line card, radio unit (RU), centralized unit (CU) and distributed unit (DU). "
Microchip's measurement, calibration and adjustment functions ensure that the 5G system meets the time error requirements of International Telecommunication Union Telecommunications (ITU-T) G.8273.2 Class C (maximum 30ns | TE |) and emerging Class D (maximum 5ns | TEL |). The architecture provides flexibility, supports up to five independent digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) channels, achieves 0.9W power consumption through a compact 9 x 9mm package, and reduces board space, power, and system complexity.
This latest platform is equipped with five ultra-low jitter synthesizers, which can provide 100 femtosecond (fs) root mean square (rms) jitter performance required by the high-speed interface of the latest 5G RU, DU and CU systems. Microchip's network synchronization platform software includes ZLS30730 high-performance algorithm and ZLS3030 IEEE 1588-2008 protocol engine. Both are widely deployed in 3G, 4G and 5G networks, with precise time service function.
Microchip's ZL3073x/63x/64x network synchronization platform is seamlessly integrated with the company's precision 5G oscillator series, such as OX-601 furnace controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO), providing an overall system solution for 5G network operators. Microchip's rich product portfolio of timing and clock solutions includes clock generation, fan out buffer, jitter attenuator solutions, quartz and MEMS oscillators, and a rich Ethernet physical layer (PHY) device family.
