Microchip expands the 32-bit PIC32MX1/2 microcontroller family

Microchip Technology announced a new family of 32-bit PIC32MX1/2 microcontrollers (MCUS) featuring 256 KB of high-capacity flash memory configuration and 16 KB of RAM in a compact package. As a popular addition to the MCU family, the new device provides flexibility for low-cost applications that require complex algorithms and application code. Works with Microchip's comprehensive range of software and tools to support the design of applications such as graphics, touch sensing, and general embedded controls.

The new PIC32MX1/2 MCU family has a wealth of features, including performance up to 50 MHz/83 DMIPS, to run advanced control applications and mTouch capacitive touch sensing. The new series also includes an enhanced 8-bit parallel master port (PMP) for graphics or external memory and a 1 Msps, 13-channel 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that supports SPI and I2S serial communication interfaces and USB device/host /OTG capabilities.

Rod Drake, Microchip's vice president of MCU32, said: "The new 32-bit MCU family meets the needs of designers for embedded control and touch applications in low cost, small packages. "Cost-efficient flash memory configurations, performance up to 83 DMIPS, packages as small as 6x6 mm and 0.5 mm pitch, and integrated peripherals provide flexibility for a wide range of applications while maintaining design size and low cost."

Microchip's MPLAB® Harmony software development framework further simplifies design by integrating licensed, resold, and supported middleware, drivers, libraries, and RTOS from Microchip and third parties. Specifically, Microchip offers complete off-the-shelf software packages, such as USB protocol stacks, graphics libraries, and touch libraries, which dramatically reduce development time for a variety of applications, including consumer electronics, industrial, and general purpose embedded controls.

PIC32MX1/2 series MCUS can help designers develop consumer electronics with capacitive touch screens, touch buttons or sliders, and USB device/host /OTG connectivity. The new series of feature-rich peripherals are also ideal for medical and industrial applications with touch screens, common embedded controls and connectivity.
