Microchip introduces IEEE 802.3bt Power over Ethernet USB Type-C power Supply and data adapter

     Microchip Technology has announced a POe-to-USB-C power and data adapter with the highest power available, delivering up to 60W of USB output power over Ethernet cables supported by PoE infrastructure. The new adapter (part number PD-USB-DP60) accepts PoE up to 90W and converts to 60W output via USB-C, powering most cameras, laptops, tablets and other devices that use USB-C input power.

     The adapter simplifies installation by reducing dependency on AC infrastructure. With no need to rely on AC sockets and no longer limited by a distance of 3 meters, the new adapter can transmit power up to 100 meters away. The new adapter also enhances remote power management capabilities for USB-C power devices. With the remote power reset function provided by the PoE source, you can power on and reset the power through the Web UI or Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), without manually unplugging and restarting the device.

     Microchip's POe-to-USB-C adapter connects to PoE sources with various standards deployed, supporting newer IEEE 802.3af/at/bt standards as well as traditional PoE standards. Since there are a variety of different implementations of PoE that have been installed, it is essential to have a versatile adapter.

Using Microchip's USB power transfer IC and PoE chipset, the adapter works perfectly with our latest PoE power suppliers and Repeaters."

     The new adapter has the ability to convert 90W input to 60W output, enabling devices that require higher power charging to use PoE that was previously unavailable, It can also be paired with Microchip's cost-effective single - and multi-port (up to 24) PoE contributors/Repeaters and IEEE 802.3af/at/bt industry standard switches, providing up to 90W of power per port. If you need lower power to power a USB-C device, you can use an IEEE802.3af (15.4W) or IEEE802.3at (30W) PoE source.

     Microchip also offers key integrated circuit solutions that support POE-to-USB-C adapters, including the PD70xxx series PoE ics and the LAN7800 USB-to-Ethernet bridge. This functionality is implemented by Microchip's Power Supply Software Framework (PSF). PSF is an open source power supply (PD) protocol stack that runs on UPD301C PD controllers and provides full PD 3.0 functionality and customization for Microchip's PD controllers, microcontrollers, and USB hubs.
