Microchip introduces SAR ADC and differential amplifier

     Microchip introduces 12 new Successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and complementary differential amplifiers designed for the new SAR ADC product family to meet the application market's demand for higher speed and resolution analog-to-digital conversions.

     Designed for high temperature and electromagnetic operating environments, the MCP331x1 (D) -xx series includes the industry's only AEC-Q100 compliant 16-bit SAR with a sampling rate of 1 million times per second (Msps), providing essential reliability for automotive and industrial applications. The MCP6D11 differential amplifier provides a low-distortion, high-precision interface to achieve the full performance of the ADC in the system.

     The MCP331x1(D)-xx series offers resolution ranges of 12, 14 and 16 bits, and speed options ranging from 500,000 samples per second (ksps) to 1 Msps, giving developers the right ADC for their designs. The ADCs are capable of operating at a fixed low analog supply voltage (AVDD) of 1.8V and low current (typical effective current of 1.6mA at 1 Msps and 1.4mA at 500 ksps), with ultra-low power consumption and a full scale input range.

     These devices support a wide digital I/O interface voltage (DVIO) range (1.7V to 5.5V) and can be directly connected to most main devices such as Microchip PIC32, AVR® and Arm® based microcontrollers and microprocessors without the need for an external voltage level changer. The MCP331x1 (D) -xx series includes single-ended and differential input voltage measurement options that enable the system to convert differences between two arbitrary waveforms. The AEC-Q100 certification series delivers reliable performance in harsh environments and is ideal for applications such as high-precision data acquisition, EV battery management, motor control and switching power supplies.

     Properly connecting small analog signals to high-speed, high-resolution ADCs without introducing additional noise and distortion is a huge challenge. Microchip's MCP6D11 differential amplifier is designed to address this challenge, providing a low-distortion and high-precision interface for properly driving ADCs.
