Microchip introduces an eight-port switch that complies with the new IEEE 802.3bt Power over Ethernet (PoE) standard

     With enterprises and institutions committed to improving building energy efficiency and improving building operating costs, the application of commercial intelligent lighting systems is becoming more and more common. These systems are increasingly using Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology to manage power and data through a single Ethernet cable, providing a reliable, easy to install solution for the system. In order to promote the scale and efficiency of lighting systems, Microchip Technology, through its subsidiary Microsemi Corporation (Microsemi), has released a cost-effective eight-port PoE switch - PDS-408G PoE switch. The new switch ensures 60W of power for 8 ports at the same time and is suitable for digital ceiling installations. The new product complies with IEEE 802.3bt standard and adopts a fanless design, which does not produce noise during operation.

     The PDS-408G switch is designed for enterprise connected lighting applications, integrating different systems such as lighting, sensors, HVAC, Wi-Fi access points, and more on a single switch. The switch has eight PoE ports (the optimal number of ports for networked lighting) and provides additional cost savings for end applications through energy savings and reduced operating costs. It complies with the IEEE 802.3bt standard and provides a total power of 480W, with a maximum power of 90W on a single port and 60W when powered on 8 ports simultaneously.

     The PDS-408G switch's fire retardant rating is supercharged and can be installed in any ventilated space, making it the best choice for digital ceiling installations. PDS-408G switch adopts fanless design, which can fully meet the needs of offices, hospitals, hotels and other buildings with high requirements for quiet and reliability. In addition, it also has other advantages of PoE, such as safe power supply, simple installation, flexible deployment, support for remote power management, and so on.

     The PDS-408G switch is part of Microchip's portfolio of end-to-end PoE solutions. Developers can use the PDS-408G switch and Microchip's various 8-bit and 32-bit PIC and AVR microcontrollers at the end nodes. To help developers speed up PoE design, Microchip offers a number of easy-to-use hardware and software tools, including PIC18 PoE motherboards with PIC18 microcontrollers, ATECC608A safety devices, and MIC28512 step-down regulators.
