Industrial automation and digital transformation are driving rapid growth in the market for scalable, standardized network solutions to meet the needs of business operations technology (OT) deployments. In order to provide a comprehensive network solution to automation manufacturers, Microchip Technology announced the LAN9662 Gigabit Ethernet switch. The switch features four ports, audio and video bridging and time-sensitive networking (AVB/TSN), two integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T PHYs, and a 600 MHz Arm® Cortex®-A7 CPU subsystem.

In order to provide a comprehensive network solution to automation manufacturers, Microchip Technology Inc. The LAN9662 Gigabit Ethernet switch was announced today. The switch features four ports, audio and video bridging and time-sensitive networking (AVB/TSN), two integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T PHYs, and a 600 MHz Arm® Cortex®-A7 CPU subsystem.
To support industrial Ethernet applications, the LAN9662 features a real-time engine (RTE) that is capable of modifying Ethernet frames in flight for faster cycling data rates and lower latency. The LAN9662 complies with key industry standards such as OPC Unified Architecture (OPC/UA) and PROFINET software protocol stack to provide the deterministic communication capabilities required for industrial networking applications.
Charles Forni, vice president of Microchip's USB and Networking business unit, said: "The LAN9662 is an extension of the LAN966x family and provides a viable solution for scaling TSN-enabled networking terminals. Our solutions provide customers with a comprehensive software portfolio to enable them to launch designs in compliance with industry standards."
The AN9662 has two integrated PHYs that provide extremely low latency and support for a variety of Daisy chain topologies. PHY interfaces quickly process data in a specified time, providing a reliable network for automation applications such as motors, conveyor belts and multi-axis robot controllers.
The LAN9662 supports a maximum of two RGMII/RMII, two 1000BASE-X/SerDes/2.5GBASE-X/KX, and one Quad-SGMII/Quad-USGMII interfaces. These configurable interfaces enable designers to implement a variety of physical layers or interconnects that may be required.
