Microchip introduces the first Trust&Go Wi-Fi 32-bit MCU module

As iot expands from home automation to home control areas such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), garage doors and electric fans, and accelerates in building and industrial automation, the demand for highly integrated, reliable and secure Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity has never been greater. Microchip Technology announced the launch of the industry's first Wi-Fi microcontroller module. The module uses Microchip's Trust&Go technology to implement unique authentication capabilities.

Microchip introduces the first Trust&Go Wi-Fi 32-bit MCU module with advanced peripheral options. For developers designing secure industrial iot systems, Microchip's highly integrated WFI32E01PC is a Wi-Fi microcontroller module pre-configured for cloud platforms that supports Trust&Go security platforms. The module complies with Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) specifications and is fully certified by three world-class regulators: the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Industry Canada (IC) and the European Radio Equipment Directive (RED). Microchip WFI32E01PC's internal Trust&Go platform uses security component technology to pre-configure and set cloud authentication, simplifying the process of network authentication.

Unlike existing devices, Microchip's new technology includes a top-of-the-line PIC32 MCU core, rich peripheral support, and a proven hardware security platform. The new technology can not only provide Wi-Fi, but also act as a powerful microcontroller core for the entire industrial Internet system.

Steve Caldwell, vice president of Microchip's Wireless Solutions business unit, said: "With the increase in attacks, traditional software data encryption is no longer enough to protect the security of data transmission. Devices require a hard-coded, verifiable, and trusted identity to securely connect to the cloud. "The product launched today is the industry's first secure, pre-configured, wi-Fi-enabled microcontroller that can be supplied directly from the factory or to customers through a distribution network."

Unlike module-based design, discrete design can be difficult due to the need to develop drivers and circuits for multiple chips, especially when the chips come from different vendors. It is often difficult to get system-level support from vendors because their expertise is limited to the products they produce. Embedded designers need a highly integrated modular solution that provides industrial-grade microcontroller functionality, robust Wi-Fi connectivity, and hardware security and authentication. The all-in-one WFI32E01PC offers more functionality, increased radio frequency (RF) power, and greater security.
